It is a common debate among the running community on the benefits of running indoors or outdoors. When I say indoor running, I am not talking about running in circles in your living room. Usually when someone refers to indoor running they are talking about exercising on the worlds most common piece of exercise equipment, the electric treadmill.

There are many good reasons to run on a treadmill instead of running outdoors. For example, if you live in a big city where there is a lot of pollution it is probably a good idea to run indoors unless you enjoy the feeling of getting light headed from inhaling car fumes. Just like with pollution, indoor running is also great for those who live in places where it is constantly raining or snowing.

One of the greatest benefits of treadmills is that they are great for those who have joint problems or those who want to avoid joint problems. If you are one of those who gets bored from running, with a treadmill you can watch your favorite television programs while you run.

On the other side of the spectrum are those who are outdoor runners. Running outdoors is crucial for anyone that would like participate in any running competitions since running on a treadmill is much different than running outdoors since treadmills are less physically strenuous because you are running in place and do not have to push off the same way as you would if running outdoors.

Running in the sun is a great way to get vitamin D which is very important to your health. For those who love the outdoors, running outdoors can make running much more entertaining. One of the downsides of running outdoors is that it can get very boring running the same route every time. To make running outdoors more exciting I recommend getting a GPS watch and switching up your route and running outdoors will become a lot more fun.

Not many people know that when it comes to running machines like electric treadmill they were first invented for the use of prisoners. There was not a lot of space to be exercising so running indoors and the possibility of being closely guarded while doing it was a huge improvement in the safety of of everyone. Back then all the treadmill that were around were so called manual treadmills where you had to use the strength of your legs to keep the belt moving and it could get quite demanding.

Electric Treadmills

The modern treadmill running machines have evolved in to models that are motorised and enable the runner to have a slight ease in his efforts because the electric motor is keeping the movement even if you are not moving. The treadmill belt size is an important factor here since if the stride of the person using the machine is longer than the length they will eventually fall of the mat. These result in probably the most common types of injuries related to any kind of exercise equipment. Using a lot of belt lubricant may also result in to having these types of accidents since the excess will eventually splurge from the seams and cause you to slip on the mat. I would not like that to happen to me since I am very careful about my treadmill home gym and I keep it at perfect mint condition. The worst thing that I could imagine is falling while running inside and hurting myself.

The traditional manual treadmills that were used in the dawn of time by the very first treadmill manufacturers are very different from the commercial treadmills of today. Not only is the mat completely motorised but these electric treadmill also have a lot of great qualities that have been made possible by the fast paced development of the computer technology. The most common feature that comes to my mind is definitely the heart rate monitor which uses two conductors attached to different parts of your body. The most common part is the ear lobe where the other conductor is attached to the inner side and the other to the outer side. That way it can sense the electric pulses that are coming from your heart as it beats. Since the whole heart is working in sync the pulses are greatly enhancing each other which make it easy to detect the differences between the electric potentials. There are also a lot of models which have these conductors integrated to the parts where you can hold on, and it will use our hands to measure your heart beat.

Another good feature in electric treadmill is the calories burnt counter. It will use a constant to calculate your energy expenditure from the work that is done towards the treadmill belt. That way it can take in to notice the efficiency of your muscles and your basic metabolic rate. To have your burnt calories estimated correctly you will need to type in your weight, age, height, and gender so that the computer can use different constant to get an accurate result. Remember that this is never the exact value and it could only be calculated by measuring the oxygen consumed. You should use these numbers to get an approximate of the efficiency of your treadmill workout.

Electric Treadmill Specifications

A lot of the commercial treadmills also have an integrated iPod dock to enable you to use your portable music player hands free and without the hassle of being tied to the wires. They allow you to place your mp3 player on the structures of the machine and then use some kind of wireless transfer method to a headset that you are wearing.

Electric Treadmill Models

Most of the new electric treadmill manufacturers have models that can be easily stored and moved away from where you are using them.. This has enabled the use of a treadmill in your own home and even in your living room. You no longer need to have an integrated television but you can move your machine to where you have the best setup to watch TV. That way you can enjoy your favorite programs while doing a high intensity treadmill running incline workout. It can be hard to concentrate on both of these activities but at least you are being very time efficient and you can’t make excuses for not doing your daily workouts. These folding treadmills are easy to find and you should have no trouble in getting a model that fits your needs. The models that I have seen are the Reebok I Run, Carl Lewis, Proform, Bremshey Control T, Horizon Elite 507, Life Fitness T.7.0 treadmills. I have no experience in the quality of these but you should really just find out yourself to be sure if they are suitable for your use. Try reading electric treadmill reviews to get a good idea of what you need when it comes to your home gym equipment.
